Tyn Dwr Hall is a spectacular Victorian mansion above Llangollen, wrapped in North Wales countryside — characterful, relaxed and endlessly photogenic.
Tyn Dwr is one of the most fun, free-spirited venues I photograph. The house is full of personality, the grounds tumble down towards the Dee valley, and the whole place has a warm, festival-like feel that suits my documentary style perfectly.
For portraits, the courtyard, the stonework and the surrounding hills all give something different, while the lawns are made for confetti and celebration. As the day mellows, the North Wales light over the valley is a real gift.
I let a Tyn Dwr wedding be exactly what it is — relaxed, joyful and a little bit wild — capturing the honest moments as they happen rather than staging them. A few quiet minutes at golden hour is all I need for something breathtaking.
It's a straightforward run from Farndon just over the border, so I arrive early and unhurried and know how the light moves across Tyn Dwr's grounds through the day.
